(By Lurah Spell. Source) BRISTOL, Va. —Members of the Bristol Morning Rotary Club gathered this morning at the Food City on Euclid Avenue to distribute $10,000 in checks to help area non-profit organizations.
According to a written statement, proceeds from the club’s annual Labor Day End of Summer 5K race are given to organizations each year.
Bristol Youth Leadership, Riversway, Girls Inc., the Boys and Girls Club of Bristol, all received $2,000. The foundations of both Bristol Tennessee City Schools and Bristol Virginia Public Schools received $1,000.
The Bristol Morning Rotary Club has provided more than $1 million in scholarships, grants and annual gifts to area students and non-profits agencies, the statement says.
“We are honored to be able to help supplement the great work that these organizations are doing in our community by providing funds to help them accomplish their goals,” said Michael Bird, club president, in the statement. “Our rotary club truly believes in doing things that help benefit our community.”
The club will host its next 5K End of Summer Race on Sept. 5, 2016.
